Kilkenny’s Jack Ryan claims Italian Grand Prix win – Denis Lynch on top in The Netherlands

Irish riders claimed two Grand Prix victories this weekend in Europe, while the 2025 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Finals saw Daniel Coyle secure a 12th place finish.

Kilkenny’s Jack Ryan and the Seamus Drea owned and bred DSH Lucky Junior (ISH) stormed to victory in Sunday’s four-star Grand Prix at Arezzo in Italy. Seven of the 50 starters went through to the jump-off where Ryan and the 9-year-old gelding produced the fastest clear to take home the winners prize of €26,500.

“I’m delighted to win this four-star Grand Prix here in Arezzo,” Ryan commented. “DSH Lucky Junior was bred by my uncle Seamus Drea and by BBS McGregor who I used to compete. He [DSH Luck Junior] gave me everything today, he jumped absolutely fantastic in both rounds and I’m delighted with the win.”

Tipperary’s Thomas Ryan also made it into the jump-off in Arezzo and finished fourth with Jezebeau BC. Meanwhile at Peelbergen in The Netherlands, Tipperary’s Denis Lynch came out on top in the two-star Grand Prix with the 13-year-old stallion Cornets Iberio.

Derry’s Daniel Coyle and the 12-year-old grey gelding Incredible finished in 12th place overall at the end of the 2025 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Finals which were held at Basel in Switzerland. Following on from the first two rounds of jumping held earlier in the week, the top 25 combinations went forward to Sunday’s final two rounds to decide the title. Coyle and Incredible jumped a perfect clear in the first round and kept all the fences standing in the second round, picking up just two time penalties. They finished the competition on a total score of 15 penalties in 12th spot. French rider Julien Epaillard and Donatello d’Auge are the new World Cup champions, after finishing on a final score of just 4 penalties.

It was also a good weekend for Irish breeders in Basel, as DPS Revere (ISH), bred in Galway by Dara O’Malley and ridden by Germany’s Marcus Ehning, beat off a field of 38 top class competitors to win the five-star Turkish Airlines Grand Prix with the fastest of six double clear rounds.
