Peter Brady-bred Off The Record (ISH) wins Kentucky four-star Event – Four Irish-bred horses in top 20
The 16-year-old gelding Off The Record, bred in Co Cavan by Peter Brady and ridden by America’s Will Coleman, led from start to finish to claim victory on Sunday in the CCI4*-S competition at the 2025 Defender Kentucky Three Day Event.
Off The Record (ISH) produced a new record score in the opening Dressage phase of 21.8 before jumping clear Cross Country adding just 7.2 time penalties. A single fence down in the final jumping phase saw the pair finish just under one penalty ahead of Phillip Dutton (USA) in runner-up spot with Possante.
“I just can’t say enough about him [Off The Record] and how hard he tries,” a delighted Will Coleman commented afterwards when speaking to The Irish Horse Board. “We love the Irish horse. It’s still I think it’s the most ideal horse for Eventing so we will always keep looking for another one like him,” Coleman added.
No less than four Irish-bred horses finished inside the top 20, with the Margaret Dobby-bred Sportsfield Lumier (ISH) finishing 13th with Hayley Frielick (NZL). Lissavorra Quality (ISH), bred by Patrick McLoughney finished 15th with Elisa Wallace (USA), just ahead of the Justin Burke-bred HSH Blake (ISH) in 16th with Caroline Pamukou (USA).
Meanwhile in the CCI5*-L in Kentucky, Brookfield Quality (ISH), bred in Co Monaghan by Sean Kelly, scored an impressive fourth place finish for British rider Tom McEwen. Victory went to Germany’s Michael Jung and Fisherchipmunk FRH.
