Irish-Bred Horses Shine at Badminton leg of Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Class 2025

Irish-bred horses showcased their exceptional quality and future potential at the 2025 Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Class held at Badminton Horse Trials, securing podium finishes in both the four and five-year-old divisions.

The Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Series, which culminates at the Burghley Horse Trials on September 6, is designed to identify and support the development of young horses with the athleticism, temperament and type to progress to elite-level eventing.

Four-Year-Old’s – Victory for Parc All The Hype
Topping the four-year-old section was Parc All The Hype (ISH), a 16.2hh bay gelding, bred by John Fitzgerald, ridden by Great Britain’s Kitty King and owned by her husband, Ben King. Parc All The Hype (ISH) posted the highest jumping score of the 29 starters, was awarded joint top marks for his gallop, and scored an impressive 19 out of 20 for type.

“Absolutely over the moon with Parc All The Hype in the four-year-old Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Class,” said King. “It was his first grown-up show and he was a complete professional. Hopefully, he’ll be able to set foot on Badminton’s hallowed turf again in a few years and do just as well.”

Finishing a close second was Doonaveeragh Two O One (ISH), bred by Andrew Ivan Gardiner and ridden by New Zealand’s James Avery for owner Chris Makin. The 2021 gelding, by Lagans Obos Quality (ISH), led the dressage but was narrowly edged out of the top position by less than one penalty point.

Five-Year-Old’s – Another Podium for Greannanstown Sarahs Lady (ISH)
In the five-year-old class, Irish-bred mare Greannanstown Sarahs Lady (ISH), bred by Geraldine Flynn, continued her impressive form, finishing second under Holly Woodhead for owner Chris Makin, his second podium placing for the week. It was yet another stellar performance for the Irish-bred mare who won the 4-year-old class at Badminton last year.

“I absolutely love producing these babies and seeing them develop,” said Woodhead. “This was her first outing of the year. I love her and her attitude to give her best.”

The consistent presence of Irish-bred horses across both young horse classes at this year’s event underlines Ireland’s continued influence on the sport of eventing. With the final of the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Series set for September, all eyes will be on these promising young stars as they progress through the ranks.
