Tipperary’s Denis Lynch and the 16-year-old stallion Cordial secured a runner-up finish in last night’s (Saturday) five-star Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
A thrilling 11-horse jump-off saw Lynch take the lead with a clear in 43.66 seconds and he looked set for victory until the very last combination, Germany’s Jana Wargers and Dorette OLD, snatched the win with an incredible clear in 41.71. Lynch took home €100,000 for his second place finish and the result saw the Tipperary rider finish fourth overall on the 2025 LCGT championship table.

Riyadh was hosting the last leg of the 2025 Longines Global Champions Tour Championship, with attention now turning to the GC Prague Playoffs (20-23 November) where the winners of each LGCT Grand Prix stage will face-off in the €1.25 million Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix.
Meanwhile Meath’s Cian O’Connor has been in good form across the Atlantic after recording three podium finishes at the five-star Mexican fixture in Monterrey. He began the week with victory in Wednesday’s 1m45 speed class with the 8-year-old gelding Pegasus. He partnered Kentucky TN to a third place finish in Friday’s 1.50m Grand Prix Qualifier, while on Saturday, he was back among the prizes with Pegasus when finishing as runner-up in a 1.50m class.
