The Irish Show Jumping team secured victory in the the Spanish Nations Cup at Vejer De La Frontera for the second year in-a-row, after a commanding performance on Friday afternoon.
The Irish quartet of Susan Fitzpatrick (Lovely Stassi PS), Niamh McEvoy (Olympic ‘gl’ ‘fvd’), Max Wachman (Tipperary) and Ethen Ahearne (Lvs Goldrush (ISH) finished on a two round total of six faults, and had victory assured without the need for their anchor rider to jump in the second round.

Kilkenny’s Susan Fitzpatrick and Lovely Stassi PS gave Ireland the perfect start with a clear first round and followed that with a single fence down second time out. Tyrone’s Niamh McEvoy with Olympic ‘gl’ ‘fvd’ had just two time penalties in the first round before delivering a clear inside the time in the second round. Tipperary’s Max Wachman with Tipperary had two fences down in their opening round and recovered brilliantly to jump a clear second round which sealed Ireland’s win. Ethen Ahearne with the Dermot Walsh-bred Lvs Goldrush (ISH) produced a perfect clear first round and didn’t need to jump second time out with Ireland’s win already assured.
Brazil finished as runners-up on a score of 8 faults, while third place went to Germany on 13 faults.
